ITINERARY
SIGIRIYA & DAMBULLA TOUR HIGHLIGHTS
1 - Sigiriya Rock Fortress
Start your day tour of Sigiriya and Dambulla by departing early in the morning from your starting point. The drive from Colombo to Sigiriya takes approximately 4 hours, so it’s advisable to leave early to make the most of your day.
Upon arrival in Sigiriya, visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Climb to the top of the rock and explore the ancient ruins and frescoes. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape from the summit. The climb can be physically demanding, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
2 - Lunch
After descending from Sigiriya, take a break for lunch. There are several restaurants and cafes in the area where you can sample traditional Sri Lankan cuisine or international dishes.
3 - Dambulla Cave Temple
After lunch, head to Dambulla, located approximately 19 kilometers away from Sigiriya. Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla. This complex of cave temples dates back to the 1st century BC and houses stunning statues and intricate wall paintings. Explore the five caves filled with Buddhist art and relics.
4 - Return journey or optional activities
Once you have finished exploring the Dambulla Cave Temple, you can either start your return journey or choose to participate in optional activities based on your interests and available time. Some options include:
Elephant Safari: Visit the nearby Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park for an elephant safari. These parks are known for their large gatherings of wild elephants, and it’s an incredible opportunity to see them up close in their natural habitat.
